Lot 'legale' transseksuelen in Iran zwaar  / Jenda Terpstra.

Parool 17-12-2010
bron: Parool 17-12-2010

samenvatting: Thalia, who?s birth name is Eko Chandra, has been working as a prostitute in Taman Lawang, Jakarta, for four years. Transvestite sex workers in Jakarta, Thalia says, face a lot of risks on the job. They do risk of being the target of raids by public order officers, the discrimination from society and even risk of being murdered. Thalia is also the Jakarta leader of Organisasi Perubahan Sosial Indonesia (Social Change Organization Indonesia), a local group that works to promote the protection and rights of sex workers in Indonesia.

"They Hunt Us Down for Fun" : discrimination and Police Violence Against Transgender Women in Kuwait.

[New York, NY etc.]: Human Rights Watch [HRW], 2012 - 63 bl.
uitgave: [New York, NY etc.] : Human Rights Watch [HRW], 2012 - 63 bl.
onderwerpen:
thema:
  1. geweld/discriminatie
  2. transgender
samenvatting: In 2007 the Kuwaiti parliament outlawed "imitating the opposite sex", paving the way for police to arbitrarily detain, torture, and sexually harass and abuse transgender women in Kuwait with impunity. Despite a formal state recognition of Gender Identity Disorder, arrests of transgender women continue unabated. The police often take advantage of the law to blackmail transgender women for sex, and redress for police abuse is difficult, if not impossible, for fear of reprisal and re-arrest. The law does not criminalize any specific act or behavior, but rather an appearance whose interpretation i left entirely up to the whims of the police, giving them free reign to decide who is breaking the law and how it is broken. This report documents the abuse, violence, and persecution faced by transgender women at the hands of the police as well as the discrimination they face on a daily basis as a result of this law.

Gay en veilig in Brabant? : ervaringen van homo's, lesbo's, biseksuelen en transgenders met intolerantie, discriminatie en agressie in de regio Noordoost Brabant  / Ben Rovers.

's-Hertogenbosch: BTVO / COC, 2012 - 33 bl.
uitgave: 's-Hertogenbosch : BTVO / COC, 2012 - 33 bl.
onderwerpen:
thema:
  1. geweld/discriminatie
  2. homoseksualiteit

"Not Worth a Penny" : Human Rights Abuses against Transgender People in Honduras  / [written and researched by Juliana Cano Nieto ; reviewed and ed. by Scott Long].

New York, NY [etc.]: Human Rights Watch [HRW], cop. 2009 - 45, [1] bl.
uitgave: New York, NY [etc.] : Human Rights Watch [HRW], cop. 2009 - 45, [1] bl.
onderwerpen:
thema:
  1. geweld/discriminatie
  2. transgender
samenvatting: This report is based on research conducted during two two-week field visits to Honduras in December 2008 and in February 2009, as well as prior and subsequent research, including phone interviews. Overall, Human Rights Watch conducted in-depth interviews with 35 people who were victims of or eyewitnesses to discrimination and physical violence targeting transgender people, in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and La Ceiba, the three major cities in Honduras. Human Rights Watch interviewed other victims who did not want their stories to be included in the report for security reasons. Human Rights Watch also interviewed the Honduran minister of security, leading officers in the Office of the Attorney General, and five high ranking police officials in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, as well as United Nations officials, human rights NGO leaders and activists, and academics. The report focuses on transgender people, in particular male-to-female (MTF) transgender individuals, because of their particular vulnerability to police abuse and violence. Human Right Watch interviewed one self-identified female-to-male (FTM) transgender person, who stated that he had not had problems with the police. Human Rights Watch attempted to locate other FTM transgender people, but without avail.

Born Free And Equal : Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in International Human Rights Law.

New York, NY [etc.]: United Nations, 2012 - 62 bl.: ill.
uitgave: New York, NY [etc.] : United Nations, 2012 - 62 bl.: ill.
onderwerpen:
thema:
  1. rechtspositie
  2. homoseksualiteit
samenvatting: In June 2011, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 17/19 - the first United Nations resolution on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity. The resolution was approved by a narrow margin but, significantly, received support from Council members from all regions. The purpose of this booklet is to set out the core obligations that States have towards LGBT persons, and describe how United Nations mechanisms have applied international law in this context. For the past eighteen years, United Nations human rights treaty bodies and special procedures have documented violations of the human rights of LGBT people and analysed State compliance with international human rights law. They have accumulated a body of evidence that shows how individuals are targeted on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and have issued specific guidance to States. The sections that follow summarize their findings and advice to help States take the necessary steps to meet their fundamental human rights obligations. The booklet is also intended to assist human rights defenders and rights-holders generally to call States to account for breaches of international human rights law.
